Luggage Warranties
Understanding the warranty is an important step in selecting your new luggage.
Read it carefully. Ask questions if there is any part you do not understand.
Most finer luggage today will offer either a lifetime warranty or a
warranty that covers some extended period of time, like ten years.
In almost all cases, manufacturers warrant their luggage against defects
in materials and workmanship. If your luggage is damaged, and the damage is the
result of a defect in material or workmanship, then most manufacturers' warranties will
cover either repair or replacement of the bag, usually at their option.
It is important to understand though, that most manufacturer warranties
do not cover airline damage. If you check your luggage when you
travel, and the airline's automated
baggage handling system breaks it, chances are the company that manufactured your luggage
will not cover the repair under their warranty. That would be equivalent to an
automobile manufacturer fixing your car after you are involved in a fender bender.
If you check your luggage, and it gets damaged while in an airline's
possession, then you need to file a claim with the airline prior to leaving the
terminal. Once you leave the terminal, few airlines will recognize your
claim.
It is important to carefully read and understand the warranty
information provided with the luggage you purchase. |
